  • Assassination of Archduke Frankz and his wife

  • Wars being declared

    Germany invaded belguim, followig a straegy known as the Schlieffen Plen. This plan was called for a holding actin ation agaisnt Russia. Combined with a quick drive through Belgium to Paris.
  • German U-boats sink the Lusitania

    Unable to save Belgium, the allies retreated to the Marine River in France. Where they halted the german advance.
  • 1916 Election

    The U.S. presidential election. The democrats renominated Wilson, and the republicans nominated supreme court justice rCharles Evans Hughes.

    Required men to regester with government in order to be randomly selected for military service. by the end of 1918 24 mill men registerd under the act. O f this number almost 3 mill were called up.

    congress passed the espionage act. Meaning a person could be fined up to 10,000 and sentenced to 20 years in jail for interfering with the war effort or saying anything disloyal about the government otthe war effort.
  • Fuel Admininstration

    Fuel Admnistration introduced another conversation measure. Daylight savings time, which had first been proposed by Benjamin Franklin in the 1770's. As a way to take advantage of the longer of summer.
