    This was the first edition of microsoft Windows. It had a x86 - 16 bit architecture. It was the first OS to have a graphical interface, and many prefered MS-DOS to Windows 1.0 since MS-DOS was easier to use for many of the pros.

  • Windows 2.0

    Windows 2.0
    Windows 2.0 is similar to 1.0, except it offers some new features. Some new features include overlapping windows and VGA allowing for a whopping 16 colors! Keyboard shortcuts were introduced aswell.

    Windows 3.0 brought a re-built GUI to compete with Apple Macintosh and the Commidore Amiga. Along with this, Windows 3.0 needed special Intel CPUs capable of better memory management.

    Windows 95 brought many upgrades such as a 32-bit architecture. It also introduced the "Start button" and "Taskbar". Overall, it was a success.

    Windows 98 was the successor to Windows 95. it didn't brin a whole lot of new features, but some include a paintbrush tool, a faster shut down, and Internet Explorer 4.0

    Windows 200
    Windows 2000 was the successor to Windows NT 4.0. It was designed for users and servers. A couple features include Internet Explorer 5.0 and a new file protection.

    Windows ME was targeted toward home PC users. it included new software such as Internet Explorer 5.5, Windows Media Player 7, and Windows Movie Maker. Windows ME had a short shelf life, and Windows XP came out a year later.

    Windows XP was targeted toward mainstream users. It was a major success, and it sold 400 million copies within five years. Many didn't even bother to upgrade to Windows Vista since XP was more friendly. Some new features included an updated UI, Internet Explorer 6, DirectX 9, faster start up, and more system reliablity.

    Windows Vista released for home use on January 30th, 2007. It brought an upgraded UI which included Aero, Windows Search, and Windows DVD Maker.

    Windows 7 was the successor to Windows Vista. It brought huge changes from Windows Vista, such as performance improvements, updated Aero. It was praised for being better than Vista.
  • Windows 8

    Windows 8
    Windows 8 was the successor to Windows 7. Huge changes were made to the UI, favoring tablets. Besides the terrible UI, it brought performance improvments and updated security.
