She was born in Clarksville,Tennessee. For just a girl who weighed a little over four pounds, no one had 22 brothers and sisters, no one was Wilma Rudolph.

When Wilma was 5 years old she was diagnosed with polio so she could not walk or go to school.

When Wilma was 8 years old she could walk and go to school only with a heavy steel brace on her leg.

When Wilma was on her way to church she took off her brace and tried to walk without it.

When Wilma was in high school she tried out for the basketball team and made it and she led the team from one win to another.

When Wilma was playing one of her basketball games she saw a man looking at her, studying her. The next day she was exepted to Tennessee State University, only for running though but she was so happy! The track coach encouraged her to run for them, so she exepted the once in a lifetime opportunity.

When Wilma was a senior in high school she qualified for the 1956 Olympics! She started training right away!

Wlma won a bronze medal in the 400-meter relay! Even though they wern't in first they knew they tried their hardest.

Wima qualified for the 1960 Olympics again!! She told her track coach that she was in it and he helped train her.

When Wilma was competing in the 200-meter race she sprang her ankle during it, but she led her team to winning a gold medal.

Wilma Rudolph retierd from running and moved onto coaching a track team at a high school and supported other kids.

Wilma died of brain cancer in 1994 at the age of 54 on a Saturday.
