Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was the biggest territorial acquisition in U.S. history. It was made by Thomas Jefferson with Paris. Thi streaty doubled the size of the United States. -
The Oregon Trail
Starting in 1811, the Oregon Trail started to form. Fur trappers made the trail to enable trade and was also used by immigrants to get to places such as California. The trail was finished during 1840 and this was about the time the Gold Rush started. Railroads eventually overtook the trail. -
When education became a reform
During the 1830's, the reform movement of education started to have an effect. People started protesting that everyone should have equal education opportunities. This led to state wide education systems which give equal chance and are still in effect today. -
The Spark of the California Gold Rush
James Wilson Marshall found gold in a river in California while there were only about 700 Americans. News spread and many people started immigrating to California to try to get gold and support their families. -
Indians Being Moved
During the 1850's, Natives were asked to leave their living area and go into reservations. There was much turmoil and many battles were fought, but in the end Americans won and Indians were moved. -
The Peak
During the year of 1852 the California Gold Rush peaked with 100,000 poeple mining gold and at the end of the year, 81 million dollars were dug up.
