    Bessemer Steel Production

    • Was the first inexpensive industrial process for the mass production of steel from pig iron
    • Andrew Carnegie bought iron oil fields coal mines and ships so he could mine his own iron ore. He bought other steel mills and founded the Carnegie steel corporation in 1892.
    • Trains were able to travel further and buildings were able to be built higher because of the steel and the structure
  • Homestead Act.

    Homestead Act.
    A settlement in the western US allowing any american to claim 160 acres of federal land. When they arrived they found little rainfall, few trees and tough soil. They were able to overcome many obstacles. They used steel plows to turn the soil, drilling equipment to dig deep water wells and wind mills. These farmers faced the hostility of Indians but eventually won against them.
