    Family included extended family members. Larger families were needed to help with the harvest.

    Transportation and Communication was limited. Lack of mobility kept family members together.
    Children were mostly educated at home or in a one room school house.

    The Industrial Age is the second wave according to Toffler. Families begin to separate and move to cities to find work.
    Society began to watch the clock.

    Transportation and communication expanded. Automobiles, trains, and planes made it possible to travel long distances easier.

    Education took over the role of childcare when parents began to work outside of the home. Children were separated by age. More visual resources were available.
