    heir to the Austrian monarchy. on june 1917 as when the royal entourage drove through the city, serbian nationalust Geavrilo Princip assasinated the duke and his wife. Princip was a part of the group known as the Black Hand. His assasination triggered the war with Serbia , which due to the allainces brought in nation after nation into the war.

The head of the CPI was a former muckraking journalist named George Creel. Creel persuaded the nation’s artists and advertising agencies to create thousands of paintings, posters, cartoons, and sculptures promoting the war. He recruited some 75,000 men to serve as “Four-Minute Men,” to give speeches
