Joey is bought in an auction by Albert's father, Mr. Narrcott. Albert will train him to become a farm horse. -
Joey becomes a farm horse
Because of a bet, Albert had to train Joey in 1 week to become a farm horse. Joey learnt how to plow the fields. -
Joey is sent to war
As Albert's family could not pay their morgage, they sell Joey to the english army. His new owner was called Captain Nicholes, he promised Albert to take care of Joey. Albert could not go to war as he was not 18 yet. -
Captain Nicholes dies
One month later, Captain Nicholes dies in the first battle, Joey is left alone but soon he gets a new owner. -
Joey's new rider
Joey's new rider is called Trooper Warren. He took good care of Joey and was very nice, but he did not know how to ride horses very well. -
"Happy" Christmas
Christmas arrives, but it is just another horrible day in war for soldiers. War was just beginning. -
Emily, Joey's new owner
Emily, a young girl, and her grandfather, find Joey and Topthorn, another horse who was with Joey in the army. They worked pulling the ambulance cart to save wounded soldiers. -
Emily keeps the horses
As the army had to move and they did not need the horses anymore, they are given to Emily and her grandfather. They started working as farm horses again, as Emily and her grandfather used them to harvest their crops. -
Back in the army
The army comes back and takes Joey and Topthorn away. Emily was really sad about this, as they were the only family she had apart from her grandfather. This army was much harsher and takes them to work as gunners. -
Topthorn dies
Because of a lot of stress and bad health conditions, Topthorn dies of a heartfailure. Joey is left alone and lost in No Man's Land. -
Joey finds Albert
Joey is found in No Man's Land by an english soldier, who takes him to the veterinary. There he was cleaned and healed. He finds Joey after a long time and they are really happy to see each other again. -
Joey heals from tetanus
After finding Albert at the veterinary, the sergeant notices Joey was ill, he had tetanus. After a long month, he is healed and Joey is able to ride him again. -
David dies
David, Albert's best friend, dies in the war. Albert is depressed by this and Joey notices there is something wrong in him. David was like a brother to Albert. -
The Auction
All of the horses at the army are auctioned off to butchers. All except one, and that was Joey. Joey is given to Albert. -
Back home
Joey and Albert get back home with Albert's family after a long time in the war. They celebrate christmas together and live happily for the rest of their lives.
