Ho Chi Minh comes to power in vietnam and declares it the independent Democratic Republic of Vietnam before a crowd of 500,000 in Hanoi. -

Viet Minh forces rally against Diem administration. They, mainly, use hit and run tactics known as "Guerrilla Warfare" -
Kennedy Elected
John F. Kennedy defeats Richard Nixon and is elected for office. He is against the war in Vietnam and tries to withdraw troops. He is assassinated before this can happen. -
Begining of the War
A U.S. serviceman is killed in Vietnam. This marks the beginning of the Vietnam war. -
Teach-Ins
First teach-in is held at the university of Michigan. Teach-ins are sessions where they challenged the principles of the war. -
Tet Offensive
the vietcong launch a surprize attack on the U.S. troops, during a cease in bombings. The Vietcong had hidden weapons in caskets that were being transfered during a breif truce -
My Lai
A company of troops is led to a small village where they are given the order of "kill anything that moves. The American people, after witnessing this on national television, begin to resent the Vietnam veterans and see them as "baby killers" -
Vietnamazation
Troops are slowly withdrawn from Vietnam and returned home. Due to what happened at My Lai, the veterans did not recieve a warm welcome home. They were harassed by many people and some of them end up commiting suicide as a result.
