    In August of 1949, the soviets made their first atomic bomb that was similar to the ones dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This led America to start a program that would develop a hydrogen bomb, which was more powerful.

    The Viet Cong was a guerilla that had the support of the North Vietnamese army. They, along with the Northern Vietnam army, attacked Southern Vietnam. They mostly terrorized, vandalized, and attacked the people and towns of South Vietnam.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Incident

    Gulf of Tonkin Incident
    Reports say a North Vietnamese battleship attacked two American battleships that were scouting. Other reports say that the Americans attacked first. The second attack was more controversial as it wasn't clear who attacked first. President Johnson made the Gulf of Tonkin Resolutions, which said America could retaliate for the attacks.

    The Paris Peace Accords was an agreement between North and South Vietnam as well as America for a ceasefire. America had to withdraw all troops and take down all camps in Vietnam and couldn't help either side anymore.

    The war officially ended when Northern Vietnam captured the capitol of Southern Vietnam, Saigon. The North and South went back to being one country again, being ruled by the communist party.
