    Geneva Accords

    Countries of France, Great Britain, The Soviet Union, The United States,China, Laos, and Cambodia, all met in Geneva, Switzerland. To make a peace agreement bewteen South Vietnamese anticomunist and North Vietnamese communists. An agreement was made, the 17th parallel, Ho Chi Minh controlled North Vietnam, and anticomunists controlled South Vietnam.
  • The Fall Of Dien Bien Phu

    The Fall Of Dien Bien Phu
    US was aiding french troops to keep French rule in Vietnam, despite US aid the French could not stop Ho Chi Minh and his men. The overran the French outpost at Dien Bien Phu.
  • Credibility Gap Grows

    U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara tells the press that the Kennedy administration intends to withdraw most American forces from South Vietnam by the end of 1965. The gap widens between information released by the U.S. government and the actual situation in Vietnam.

    Diem Assaination
    Diem was the leader of South Vietnam, Diem was a bad leader but US approved of him. Diem was a Catholic and was very unpopular with the farmers in South Vietnam, therefore,many turned to become vietcong. Diem started to kill many Budhists, as US saw this they tired to make him stop. He never did, but Diem was Assainated.

    JFK was shot and killed by Harvey Lee Oswald, while in a car in Texas. Johnson had to take over JFK's presidency, and vowed almost the same things JFK stated, but also has to take over Vietnam War.
  • The Gulf Of Tokin

    The Gulf Of Tokin
    a North Vietnamese patrol boat fired a torpedo at an American destroyer, the USS Maddox, which was patrolling in the Gulf of Tonkin off the North Vietnamese coast. The torpedo missed its target, but the Maddox returned fire and inflicted heavy damage on the patrol boat. President johnson decided to bomb North Vietnamese, and asked for all neccesary measures to prevent futher aggression. Which led the US to war without a war decoration.

    Tet Offensive

    Tet is the Vietnamese new year, there was a week long truce to stop fighting and celebrate this holiday. Although, the Vietcong did not keep this truce, and decided to do a surprise attack in villages in South Vietnam. Although, this seemed to surprise the US and South Vietnamese, the US won in a surprising victory
  • Lai Massacre

    Lai Massacre
    American soldiers, a platoon led by Second Lieutenant William Calley, massacre hundreds of civilians, mostly women, children, and elderly men in the hamlet of My Lai in South Vietnam. Outraged Americans throughout the country.
  • Vietnamization

    President Richard Nixon announces a plan for Vietnamization of the war which is, training and transitioning South Vietnamese troops to assume the roles that have been fulfilled by Americans and promises to withdraw atleast 25,000 American soldiers.
  • Ho Chi Minh Trail Bombings

    Ho Chi Minh Trail Bombings
    Nixon decided to expanded the war by bombing the Ho Chi Minh Trail, this means the war got expanded into Cambodia and Laos. This trail supplied the Vietcong with weapons, sadly america was taking outnthe troops and trying to end this war.

    Kent State Killings
    Many students protesting the bombing of Cambodia by United States military forces, clashed with National Guard onthe Kent State University campus. When the National Guard shot and killed four students,the Kent State Shootings became the focal point of a nation deeply divided by the Vietnam War.
