  • South Vietnam was established

    In Vietnam a new government and nation was established with help from the United States. The United States provided ecomonic, military, and political aid to the new area.

  • Ngo Dinh Diem became president of South Vietnam

    Ngo Dinh Diem was a very anti-communist figure and became president of South Vietnam. Instantaneously, he claimed that North Vietnam was planning to attack.

  • Viet Cong fights back

    The Viet COng starts to fight back and resist against the government.

  • National Liberation Front was created

    The National Liberation Front was a group made up of anyone that did not like Ngo Dinh Diem.This was also a group for citizens that wanted to move towards unifing Vietnam again.

  • Ngo Dinh Diem and his brother were killed

    Earlier on, Diem's bother had attacked the buddhist pagodas in Southern Vietnam. After this, some of Diems leaders went to the Americans and claimed that they no longer wanted to be under Diems rule. Diem and his brother were both captured and killed.

  • 2 American army installations were attacked by the National Liberation Front

    The National Liberation Front (NLF) attacked two American army installations and President Johnson ordered that there be bombing operations over North Vietnam.

  • Free-Fire Zones

    These free-fire zones were created to leave the enemy separated form the innocent civilians.

  • American Troops

    The amount of American soldiers in Vietnam was upwards of 500,00 and there were more than 15,000 casualties.

  • BombS dropped on North Vietnams biggest cities.

    The United States let several deadly bombs hit the ground in the biggest cities of Northern Vietnam. This brought the conflict to another level that received world wide dissaproval.
