Between a multitude of military conquests in 1859-1885, France conquers Vietnam therefore making it part of French Indo-China. The French wanted to colonize Vietnam mainly because they wanted to enlarge their empire.

Ho Chi Minh, a young man, begins to work for independence. He thought the communist party would be the best route. In the 1930's, he organized the Indochinese Communist Party to stage protests against the French. This program failed, and many of the followers ended up behind bars.

Due to protest from americans everywher the last US helicopters pull out of Vietnam after millions of casualties and deaths. The communist party invaded the south the next day and they were named the indepent nation of the republic of Vietnam.
