    The leader of the Viet Minh declared their independence from French and Japanese rule and formed the democratic republic of Vietnam. Much of WW2 Vietnam was under Japanese and the French puppets rule but then Japan took over fully. Unfortunately for them it was short lived because the Viet Minh grew stronger quickly, voicing their concerns for their independence. By the time Japan lost to the allies they controlled most of Vietnam
  • Battle of Dien Bien Phu

    The French had ruled over Vietnam, Cambodia, and Loas, but after ww2 they wanted to reestablish their control the colonies. But they were met with the Viet Minh, communist who wanted to have independence Vietnam. The fight was due to both sides wanted to own the mountain outpost near loas. The French eventually tried to occupy the town of Dien Bien Phu to cut off supplys after losing ground. The Vietnamese deiced to surround the town cutting the French off leaving them only to be supplied by air
  • Creation of the 17th parallel between North and South Vietnam

    The line was established by the Geneva accords. ran jut under the 17th parallel on the Ben Hai River and expanded three miles on each side to form a demilitarized zone. The accords said the line should not act as boundary between the two sides but was ignored. This became a political boundary between north and south Vietnam.
