    Thomas Paine's "Common Sense," was published on January 10, 1776. It was a pamphlet written to explain the basic need for independence. It also asked the big question,"how can an island beat a country?"

    George Washington became a war hero during the American Revolution. He was a brave and valiant general. He is most famous for his work at Valley Forge and the pivotal battle at Trenton. His rough trip crossing the Delaware River became a famous painting showing the truth about it's importantance to winning the war.

    Andrew Jackson appeared to be in the clear for winning the presidency in 1824. He recieved the popular vote and the electoral vote. But he did not recieve the required electoral vote of 131. This called for the election to brought to the House of Representatives. After votes from all members of the house, John Q. Adams won the presidency. It is known as one of the most unfair losses in election history.

    In the 2000 election, ballots from Florida were partially punched, not making a vote clear. This called for these some 180,000 ballots to be discarded. Al Gore won the popular vote, but Bush won the electoral vote. It is known to be unfair because of the way that Bush won. His brother, Jeb Bush, was the governer of Florida at the time, gave George 25 certified electoral college votes which gave him a four vote lead over Gore and ultimately the presidency.
