    Ho chi minh made the annoncement of them becoming independent, the same day japan surrendered to the allies. He gave a speech about them (vietnamese) wanting to become an independent and wanting there liberty.
  • U.S. Military aid to French Indochina

    U.S. saw it as a way to fight communisum by giving aid to the french. They believed that vietnam was trying to become a communist country. The aid started at $10 million and rose up to $100 million in a year. The U.S. was paying for 80% of the war.
  • Battle of Dien Bien Phu

    At Dien Bien Phu, Viet Minh launcheda suprise attack on the frenches large millitary base.they hade the whole place surranded. two months later the french were ready to give up. The U.S didnt know what o do they wanted to help but that would be huge amount of money spent. In the end Viet Minh over ran the french base.

    Is an agreement that splits vietnam for a temperary time. The Viet Minh to the north and the french to the south. Although the Viet Minh wanted to be reconized as an independent nation this was a start.Both the french and Viet Minh got an agreement.

    diem, the president was corrupt and brutal but he discrimated the buddhist population. Some Buddhist rallyed up together to oppose Diems policesthe police killed nine of them. Many buddhist monks were shaken by this that they protested this behavior by publicly setting themselves on fire intill they died.
