    Henry Clay.1820 that balanced power in congress by adding two states to the union.Maine was added as a free state while Missouri was added as a slave state.Furthermore, anything above the Missouri compromise line would be considered free territory for the future.It happened in congress,but affected Maine and Missouri
    It's because they had land and they needed two states at a time and one was a slave state and one was a free state.
    Missouri wanted to be a slave state and congress had to chose one

    Uncle Toms Cabin
    Who - The person who wrote Uncle Tom’s cabin was Harriet Beecher Stowe.
    What - Harriet Beecher though it was appropriate to let everyone know what it was like to be a slave.
    Where - She published her book on the Mayflower in 1843
    Why - To let everyone know about the consequences of being a slave.
    How - This book happened because she ran into slaves in the underground railroad.
  • Dred Scott

    Dred Scott
    Dred Scott and Sanford were involved.Mr.Scott was a slave and when he escaped and lived in a free state he went back to a slave state and thought that since he lived in a free state he was a free person.This case took place in Missouri til’ 1846-1857.This happened because Dred was forced to go back to his original owner even though he thought he lived in a free state as free person.He took this to court.Dred Scott lived in a free state and thought he was a free man even though he was black.

    Who - Congressman, David Wilmot
    What - The Wilmot Proviso banned slavery anywhere in any territory that might be acquired from Mexico, but this never passed and it was a bill.
    Where - This event happened in Texas.
    Why - This event happened because he did not like slavery and thought it would be better if we could have more territory.
    How - David Wilmot tried passing a bill but it never happened because it was super unfair.

    1850 compromise
    Who - Senator, Henry Clay
    What - Henry Clay introduced a series of resolutions on January 29, 1850, in an attempt to seek a compromise and avert a crisis between North and South. Because of Mexican-American War.
    Where - This event happened Washington D.C. it was also abolished there too.
    Why - This happened because they needed to keep the slave and free states equal.
    How - this happened because one state was going become a slave even though it was a free state.
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    Fugitive Slave Act
    Who - John Calhoun passed the Fugitive Slave Act.
    What - It was an Act that allowed the owners of the runaway slaves to take them back in the territory of the United States.
    Where - This Act happened all around America. Abolitionists wanted it removed and Confederates wanted to keep it.
    Why - So owners of slaves could get their slaves back.
    How - Because Of too many Runaway slaves, they needed to put an end to this.

    Who - Stephen Douglas wrote the Kansas Nebraska Act
    What - It allowed people in the Areas near or in Kansas or Nebraska whether they wanted slavery in their borders for both states.
    Where - This happened in Kansas and Nebraska.
    Why - This happened because Kansas and Nebraska were new states at the time so they needed to know which side they chose. Also because of Popular Sovereignty.
    How - It happened when Stephen Douglas was against Abraham Lincoln, Stephen proposed the idea.

    They talked about important discussions like Political Issues, Slavery, and Rights that the state have.
    This debate happened in Illinois 1858 in a state election against the 2.
    This debate was necessary because they both talked about Slavery, State Rights, and other Political Issues.
    This happened because they both wanted to run for president and they had to present what they had in mind for each of those topics.

    Who - John Brown was apart of his rampage.
    What - John Brown believed that the only way to solve conflict was bloodshed and he also acted on it. 6 dead and 9 injured
    Where - This event happened in Virginia. In Harpers Ferry
    Why - Because he was a staunch person when it came to religion and he believed in what he thought.
    How - He just thought things should be in a certain way and if there was conflict there should be murder and war.

    Abraham Lincoln, Stephen Douglas, John Bell, and John Breckenridge where all involved in the this election.They all ran for president talking about what they would do ,but Lincoln won as soon as the south seceded. This event took place in Washington D.C. 4 candidates wanted to run for president to prove who was the best. 4 parties choose 1 member to represent them to become president and which they wanted to be Democratic or Republican.

    Abraham Lincoln Had a lot to do with this event.After Abraham won the election many states became very successful and other states became to follow him like Mississippi,Texas, Georgia etc. This event took place in Washington D.C. where Lincoln got elected.This happened because Lincoln was chosen to be president and he was a Republican and a lot were Democrat or believed in something and he proved to everyone that this system is better. Lincoln got elected so he made changes throughout America.
