    It was a presidential election between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson won the election.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    It was a territory located in the United Sates that belonged to France. The United States were going to buy New Orleans for $10 million anyway but was offered the entire territory for $15 million. It was located in the Louisiana Territory.
  • Essex Junto

    It was a group in Massachusetts that was a powerful group from New England. They tried to get the vice president Aaron Burr to run for the New York governor to expand on their movement. Alexander Hamilton said that he was dangerous and it led to them fighting.
  • Lewis and Clark Expedition

    Lewis and Clark went to the Louisiana Territory before the United States bought it so that they could see the area and map out some of the locations in the Louisiana Territory.
  • Pike Expedition

    Thomas Jefferson sent a group out to the Louisiana Territory to look at areas of the territory and see what was there. They went to Colorado.

    In 1817 a national road was built that went from Ohio to Virginia. This road was called the Cumberland Road.

    Before the industrial revolution things were transported by river. If something needed to travel upstream it was a lot slower.

    This was the presidential election between John Adams and Andrew Jackson.

    The presidential election of 1828 was a rematch between John Adams and Andrew Jackson. Andrew Jackson won the election.
  • Indian Removal Act

    Andrew Jackson did not like the Native Americans and wanted to move them out of their land so that he could take the land. In 1830 he started trying to move them. By 1835 they were being forcibly moved from their land.
  • Panic of 1837

    Andrew Jackson did not want the Bank of the United States to be renewed.
  • Perry Expedition

    The Perry Expedition was an expedition led by Matthew Perry. The expedition led to trade being open to Japan for the U.S.

    Lincoln was elected as president.

    The civil war was a battle between the North and the South about whether slavery should or should not be allowed.
  • Secession Begins

    After Lincoln was elected some of the Southern states started to secede because they were unhappy with the election.

    Alexander Graham bell came up with the idea of the telephone in 1874. He succeeded in making his first edition of the telephone in 1876. He started the Bell Telephone Company in 1877 and it later became AT&T.
  • Edison Invents the Lightbulb.

    Thomas Edison invented the lightbulb in 1879.
  • Annexation of Hawaii

    In 1898 the U.S. annexed Hawaii. This was significant because the U.S. was expanding out into the pacific.
  • The Spanish American War

    The Spanish American was was fought between the U.S. and Spain. It was mostly fought in Central America and stopped Spain from having any territories in the Americas.

    Imperialism was the idea that a country could become powerful by controlling others.
  • Platt Amendment

    The Platt Amendment was an agreement between the U.S. and Cuba where the U.S. could help protect the Cuban independence.
  • WWI 1914 to 1918

    The first world war was a war between many different countries. The two main sides were the Allies and the Central Powers. It lasted for 4 years.
  • Tulsa Race Massacre

    In 1921 a rumor in a newspaper said that someone attacked someone else in an elevator and this caused a big fight to happen.
  • The Great Depression 1929 - 1939

    The Great Depression was a time when the economy had dropped. Jobs were lost and the stock market had crashed.

    The second world war started in 1939. It was between mostly France, Britain, and Germany. It lasted 6 years.
  • Cold War

    The Cold War was a conflict between the UN and the USSR. The UN wanted democracy and the USSR wanted communism. They fought over many countries.
  • Truman Doctrine

    It was a doctrine that said that the United States would give economic and military assistance to their allied countries. The doctrine changed foreign policy for the United States.
  • Lippman

    Lippman's Speech was about the approach of the U.S. to the Cold War. He talks about American rights and about how telling them what to believe would not follow freedom rights.
  • Election of 1970

    In 1970 Nixon was elected as president.
  • Panama Canal

    Before 1989 the United States owned the Panama canal. The U.S. had plans of giving the Canal back to Panama, but they did not agree with the new leader. The U.S. invaded Panama and put the leader of Panama on trial.
  • The Persian Gulf Wars

    The leader of Iraq, Saddam Hussein, invaded Kuwait and tried to take over. The United States got involved and freed Kuwait from being taken over.
