US History: End of Q2 Timeline

  • French join the war

    (I do not know an exact date. All I know is they joined the war in 1775)
    France allied with the Americans against the British. The French were a huge help in winning the war.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    The first battle of the American Revolution. In Concord, about 500 minutemen fought and defeated three companies of the Kings’ troops. The British troops fell back because they were outnumbered and the minutemen followed them killed over one-third of them. The battle was won by the rebels.
  • Period: to

    Second Continental Congress Meets

    They met a total of 6 times in this time frame in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Some of the things they met for were discussing the revolution and writing the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence was finished on July 4, 1776.
  • Bunker Hill

    It was the first large battle of the American War of Independence. It was fought at Breed’s Hill. It was won by the british.

    Crossing Delaware/Battle of Trenton

    George Washington and his troops crossed the Delaware River then proceeded towards Trenton, New Jersey. They were 4 hours behind schedule upon arrival, but were lucky enough that the Hessians had not put out any watches do to an approaching storm. It was won by George Washington and his troops.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    The British used a divide and conquer method. There were 7000 British and Hessian troops. In the end, 5895 of them surrendered their weapons. The american troops won.

    Valley Forge: Winter of 1777–1778.

    ( I do not know exact dates. I just know that it was the winter of 1777-1778)
    The site of a military camp for the American Continental Army. It was in Pennsylvania about 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia. Starvation, disease and exposure killed nearly 2500 American troops by the end of February 1778.
  • Battle of Cowpens: January 17, 1781.

    It took place north of the city of Cowpens, South Carolina. It was won by the Continental Army after the British surrendered. the Continental Army took 712 prisoners, 200 of which were injured during the battle.
  • Battle of Guilford Courthouse

    Considered a major part of the American victory in the Revolution. On March 14, the British were informed that the American general Nathaniel Greene was camped out at the Guilford Courthouse. The British had a total of 4,000-5,000 men fighting while the Americans only had about 1,900.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    The Americans won with the help of the French after the British surrendered. The year before, about 5,500 French soldiers came to Virginia to help the American (who they were allied with). This helped the Americans win this battle.
