    Jamestown
    The famous explorer, Christopher Columbus, sailed the ocean from Europe and landed on the "New World" and soon after they established the first permeant settlements, Jamestown. Jamestown is still around today with some of the belongings from the early settlers.

    At first they used Indentured Servants for the labor. Although by 1700 most labor needs were used by forcible importation of Africans.

    The House of Burgesses was the first elected in the New World. It still operates today as the "General Assembly".
