  • Industry

    The first spinning mill was in RI by Samuel Slater and Moses Brown. It was the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. Lowell put spinning and weaving in the same factory and made a Mill Town.
  • US Capital moves to Washington DC

    The capital was a framework for government specifics had to be decided by 1 people in office. They set the PRECEDENT; action or decision that set the example for those who followed. The first president was George Washington.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    The US got the Louisiana Territory we bought in 1803 for 115 million dollars.
    Lewis and Clark Expedition was during this time.

    -judicial review -US Supreme court rule an act of Congress unconstitutional
  • Land Area

    In 1803 the US bought the Louisianan Territory for 15 million dollars. This made the the US two times larger then what is was.

    Lewis and Clark Expedition

    As Lewis and Clark traveled west they studied wide life, made maps to the Pacific, establish relationships with Native Americans, and claimed Oregon Country for USA.
    As they traveled it took 2 and a half years to get there and back, 1 died, there was 1 small battle, but other than that it was a very successful trip.
    Lewis later committed suicide.
  • Transportation

    In the 1800's people got around in many ways. One way was walking. The roads and trails were poor but still good built by private companies "turnpikes". A turnpike was a toll road, eventually the government built the roads. (ie National Road). The National Road connected Maryland to Wheeling WV.
  • MO Compromise

    During the MO Compromise the Government decided that MO would be a slave state and that ME would be a free state. Slave N 36 latitude which delayed issue of slavery in the USA.

    The MO Compromise said that MO was a slave state but MI was a free state. This also made anything North of the 36 degrees a slave state and delayed issue of slavery

    The Monroe Doctrine was a message that the Americans were closed to colonization and to KEEP OUT. They had a strong congressman debater emerge. The Webster were in the North. Calhoun in the South. The Clay in the West.

    In 1825 the Erie Canal connected the Hudson with Lake Erie. The whole system in eastern North East US

    Population

    In 1830 12.9 million people immigrated (1%).
    In 1860 31,4 million people immigrated (9%).
    Most of the immigrants were from North West Europe.
  • Oregon Trail founded

    The trail began in Independence MO.
    They people traveled about 15 to 20 miles a day for 2,000 miles.
    They had difficulties with food, overload, terrain weather conditions, cholera and accidents and attacks.
    In 1836 Whitmans traveled first-missionaries.
    1840-1860 50,000 people reached OK Country.
    In 1846 others stated to follow the trail.
  • Land Area

    In 1844 the US fought for what is now Texas. Before we got Texas, they were fighting for independence.
  • Industry

    Morse invented the telegraph in 1844. The telegraph made if fast to communicate, merchants have better information about supply and demand.
  • Population

    People started to move west before 1849. When they got there they started to look for gold and in 1849 they seceded making the Gold Rush 1849. Word got around and people moved west quickly. In the west they also had land for cotton, Mountain Men, and a good trade area.
