    Virginia Statutes for Religious Freedom
    People were aware that forcing somebody to do something was against God. Soon people realized in the Virginia bill of rights, they soon made it so anybody could choose to do what they want with their religion. It eliminated government control over religion and churches.
  • Religious Requirements for Voting

    Religious Requirements for Voting
    Voting was only available to men who had to have a specific amount of property. Religious qualities also limited your chance to vote. Men who weren’t part of the state church were ineligible. Puritans on the other hand had different requirements. By the end of the 17th century the religious part of voting got taken out.

    Massachusetts was really important to the founding of other New England/northern colonies because of its widely disagreed beliefs. is New Hampshire. It was founded by John Mason to escape Massachusetts because they widely disagreed with John Winthrop's beliefs. As I said before.it was founded by John Winthrop to start a perfect Christian colony.

    In 1632, The Lord Baltimore, Cecilius was granted all the land between Chesapeake Bay and Potomac river. He saw this opportunity as a chance to make a colony for freedom for Catholics. He wanted to also gain a profit from this. Maryland was first settled in 1634.Many people inhabited it and even though it was a safe haven it still had a lot of persecution in it so it became a royal colony.

    Roger Williams
    Roger Williams was a minister in Massachusetts and like other people, he didn’t believe in what they had to say and he wanted complete religious freedom. Because of this he was banned from there. He and a group of people fled and bought some land and named it Rhode Island.

    It was established for the same reason but by Roger Williams, He disagreed that people shouldn’t be forced to go to Church.

    Anne Hutchinson
    There was too much conflict in Massachusetts. One of these believers was Anne Hutchinson. She wanted to think freely and didn’t want everything to be so strict and for her to be forced to do everything. She wanted more religious freedom. This type of thinking wasn’t aloud and it was dangerous because of the punishments for it. She soon got arrested for heresy and got banished from Massachusetts.

    William Penn founded Pennsylvania in 1681. The colony provided for religious freedom
    for Quakers. The Quakers wanted equality so this was good for them
  • The Great Awakening

    The Great Awakening
    It was a religious movement which was between the 1730s and 1770s.It was by George Whitefield and it helped reform the Church.He and some clergymen preached to many people.
