England enacted the Hat Act which prohibited the making of hats within the colonies and of exporting/importing hats between colonies. The act was an attempt to financially assist British hat makers as their export sales were drastically reduced in the early 1730s.

James Oglethorpe petitioned King George of England for a land charter to establish the colony of Georgia south of the Savannah River. A board of Trustees would govern the colony made up of impoverished colonists. The colony would also serve as a military buffer between Spanish Florida and the other colonies.
