    The two party system began here with the federalists and anti-federalists. Federalists were in favor of the federal system and the anti-federalists were not in favor of the federal system. Federalists were the party of the rich and well born. Whereas anti-federalists had more sympathy for the common man. Alexander Hamilton was in favor of the federalist party and wanted a national banking system. Thomas Jefferson led the anti-federalists

    The democratic-republican party was unopposed in government until the mid 1820s. It was founded by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison
  • Jacksonian Democrats

    Jacksonian Democrats
    Andrew Jackson led the democratic party, which branched out of the democratic-republican party. Its all about the support of the common man.
  • Party of Lincoln (Republicans)

    Party of Lincoln (Republicans)
    Abraham Lincoln was elected president. This is when the Democrats and Republicans switched views. Many were divided over racial issues which led to the split of the parties.

    Franklin Roosevelt was elected in 1932. Roosevelt Democrats were southerners, small farmers,organized labor, and big city political organizations. The party mainly focused on social welfare and economic programs.

    Modern Democrats are liberal which means open to change. They favor minimum wage and progressive taxation, want military spending decreased, they support the legality of abortion, and believe the people in their community should be socially responsible.
  • Modern Republicans

    Modern Republicans
    Modern republicans are conservatives who believe taxes shouldn't be increased, want increased military spending, they oppose the legality of abortion, believe in individual rights, and believe that justice should rule supreme.
