    The Proclamation of Neutrality was a formal announcement issued by United States President George Washington on April 22, 1793, declaring the nation neutral in the conflict between France and Great Britain.
  • XYZ Affair

    The XYZ affair was a 1798 diplomatic episode during the administration of John Adams that Americans interpreted as an insult from France. The Federalist took advantage of the anger and built an army to pass the alien and seditions act 1798 to 1800.
