    United States capital moved from Philadelphia to Washington D.C
    Capital of United States is moved to the District of Columbia after The Residence Act of July 16, 1790 is passed which put the nation’s capital in current-day Washington DC as part of a plan to appease pro-slavery states who feared a northern capital as being sympathetic to abolitionists.

    Ohio is entered into the union as the 17th state.
  • United States and France Agree to the Louisiana Purchase

    United States and France Agree to the Louisiana Purchase
    United States Congress agrees to sign the Louisiana Purchase which gives the US land to the Rocky Mountains for approximately 3 cents an acre.
  • Simon Perkins

    Simon Perkins
    General Simon Perkins acquires land for Portage and Summit area. Acquired the land because of the canal beginning to be built. The canal had plans to run through his purchase. This would help bring in more people and more money.

    War of 1812 (1812-1815)
    The Unites States and Britain engage in the War of 1812. Causes of the war included British attempts to restrict U.S. trade, Royal Navy’s American seamen and America’s desire to expand its territory. In the first defeat of a British naval squadron in history, U.S. Captain Oliver Hazard Perry lead a fleet of nine American ships to victory over six British warships at the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812. War would end in 1815 with an American victory.

    Missouri Compromise
    In hopes to balance the power in congress between slave and free states, the Missouri Compromise is passed which granted Maine as a free state and Missouri as a slave state. This Compromise was controversial as many people now believed people in Congress had the ability to grant or take away slaves. Ohio's original constitution prohibited the use of slavery.

    Ohio-Erie Canal
    The Ohio-Erie Canal is established. Later became the one of the most important canal systems in America. It allowed access to Lake Erie and Ohio River.
  • Akron School

    Akron School
    Akron's first school is opened. Akron's public school model became a model for the nation. Was one of the first to supply it's citizens with free education from state taxes.
  • Plain Dealer

    The Plain Dealer begins publication. Was a weekly newspaper then later became a daily newspaper. As well became Ohio's largest newspaper.
  • Kansas Nebraska Act

    Kansas Nebraska Act
    This law allowed the states Kansas and Nebraska to decide for themselves if they wanted slavery. This promoted many travelers to come to these states and clash. Complete chaos. This act further pushed the divide between anti slavery and pro slavery.

    Illinois politician Abraham Lincoln is elected as the 16th president of the United States. This election further intensifies the anti-slavery movement.
  • Civil War begins (1861-1865)

    Civil War begins (1861-1865)
    Confederate shots at Fort Sumpter begin the bloodiest four years in American history. Approximately 620,000 soldiers were killed. Ohio gave 320,000 soldiers to the Union army and lost about 7,000 of those people in the war. Ohio played in important role in the Underground Railroad.

    Lincoln Assassinated
    Lincoln is fatally shot while attending a play at Ford's theatre by former Confederate John Wilkes Booth. The Civil War just ended and slavery has been banned. Huge loss for the nation and set back for reformation period.

    First Transcontinental Railroad
    In Promontory Utah, the east railroad network connected to the west railroad network. This allowed easy transportation and faster transportation through the nation.
  • Buchtel College

    Buchtel College
    Buchtel College is established. Founded by John R. Buchtel. Later became the University of Akron.
  • Standard Oil

    Standard Oil
    Standard Oil begins business. Started by John D. Rockefeller. Succeeded from buying out it's competition. Federal Government came after Rockefeller for creating a monopoly.

    B.F. Goodrich
    B.F. Goodrich moves his rubber factory to Akron. With his move helped Akron become "Rubber Capital of the World." His first factory was called Akron Rubber Works.
  • Police Department

    Police Department
    The Akron police department is founded. With this Marshal Law system was removed. Work 24/7 providing law enforcement.
  • Riots destroy buildings

    Riots destroy buildings
    Riots turn Columbia Hall and city buildings into ruins. Became known as the darkest night in Akron history. Began from a black male assaulting a 6 year old white girl. Buildings were burned and large riots spread throughout the streets.

    Wright Brothers Accomplish First Flight
    Orville and Wilbur Wright accomplish successful flight in Kittyhawk North Carolina when their aircraft stayed in the air for 12 seconds and covered 120 feet.
  • Firestone and Ford

    Firestone and Ford
    Harvey Firestone agrees to supply tires to the cars of Henry Ford. This deal made Firestone one of the richest men in America. Firestone, Ford, and Edison joined together to create the Millionaires Club which involved luxury vacations with the trio.

    Ford Introduces Model T
    Henry Ford's Model T car is completed in a factory in Detroit. Was a car made for the common man and thousands were made in a day.

    General Tire
    General Tires moves factories to Akron. The company was began by William O'Neil and his business partner Winfred Fouse. This helped develop Akron even more as the "Rubber Capital of the World."

    United States Enters World War 1 (1914-1918)
    United States joins forces with Britain, France and Russia to combat German forces. United States was drawn in do to the fact Germans were sinking American ships and Germans wanted Mexico to be their ally.

    Fritz Pollard
    Fritz Pollard becomes first African-American quarterback and first black head coach in 1921, both for the Akron Indians. Was leader in breaking through football racial barriers. Also was the first African-American to play in the Rose Bowl in college.

    Playhouse Square is established. Would later become the second largest preforming arts center. When it was first built it took only 19 months to build.

    The stock market collapse of 1929 wiped out millions of investors and sent the economy into a crash. At one point, 25% of Americans were unemployed and salaries were reduced by an American of 40%.

    United States Enters WW2 (1939-1945)
    The United States Enters WW2 after the bombing of Pearl Harber by Japanese aircraft. The Japanese attacked after the US refused to continue selling Japan materials for their war with China. Over 60 million people were killed in WW2. WW2 helped take America out of Great Depression.

    Browns are founded and begin All-American Conference play. When the team was first acquired the Paul Brown was hired as head coach and general manager. The Browns dominated the league every year they played.

    Series of violent riots begin on May first. Began from a World War 1 vet being offended from a red flag. Fights broke out with police later involved. The fight mainly involved Socialists and Anti-Socialists.
