Unit 8 Timeline

  • Gabriel Slave Rebellion

    A literate black slave that lived in the Richmond area launched a large scale slave revolt. Governor Monroe quickly crushed the rebellion. Result was slaves could no longer congregate on Sundays without supervision
  • Missouri Compromise

    Agreement made to keep the balance of slave and free states equal. Missouri was added as a slave state and Maine added as a free state in 1821.
  • Mexican war

    War between Mexico and the United States that started as the result of the annexation of Texas, a boundary dispute and the U.S's desire to obtain Mexico's northern territories.
  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    The agreement between Mexico and the U.S. that ended the war and stated that Mexico would Cede its northern territory to the U.S.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Act that superseded The Missouri Compromise and allowed the territories in that state to decide whether or not they were to be free or slave territories based on popular sovereignty.
  • Dred Scott v Sanford

    The case that found The Missouri Compromise unconstitutional. Finding that Congress had no say in declaring what territories could or could not be slave or free states.
