    The national republicans die off and are replaced with a similar party, the Whigs.

    The democratic party broke in thirds. The northern Democrats that were ok with the south owning slaves. The southern Democrats that wanted to own slaves. and The constitutional Union that simply wanted to follow the constitution the way it was written.
