    Lowell Mill Women Create First Union of Working Women
    In the 1830's, the Lowell mill women organized and went on strike back when they could not even vote. They created the first work union for women ever.
  • Haymarket Riot

    Haymarket Riot
    This riot began as a peaceful strike. Out of nowhere a random person threw a dynamite bomb into the middle of the rally. Apparently they were aiming towards the police as they were trying to disperse the crowd.
  • McKees Rock Strike

    McKees Rock Strike
    The strike took place at the huge Pressed Steele Car Co. plant in McKees. There were 8,000 immigrant workers there all unhappy with the working conditions. This caused a huge strike.
  • Triangle Shirtwaist Fire

    A fire broke out in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. The fire was so high up that the firefighters' ladders could not reach to it. The workers all died because they were locked inside from their bosses locking the emergency door exits.
  • The Ludlow Massacre

    The Ludlow Massacre
    There was a town of people that worked in the mines for the Rockefellars. Around 1,200 coal miners went on strike forming a small tent colony near the mines. The National Guard accidentally burned down their tents and killed hundreds of them and their families in attempt to end the conflict, which arguably, they succeeded.

    The Wagner Act
    The bill was signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This law protected two things. The first is the right to form unions. The second is the right to stike.
  • The Fair Labor Standards Act

    The Fair Labor Standards Act
    This Law set 3 new standards for work. The first is that it set a minimum wage requiring a company to pay a certain amount to its employees. The second is that employees are required to be paid more for overtime. The third is that you have to be a certain age to work (Child Labor Laws).

    This union was founded for workers in textile mills. This union ended up joining with other unions and becoming even larger. It waged a decade long campaign for its cause.

    This law was directed towards the harsh work environment in facotries. Many people could get severely injured and also the results of their injuries ended up in people's food. This act was made to make the work environment more safe and sanitary.
  • The Battle for Cripple Creek

    The Battle for Cripple Creek
    Cripple creek was best known for its casinos. This came of the gold that was discovered in the area. The miners decided to strike because of the harsh work environments.
  • The Pullman Strike

    The Pullman Strike
    250,000 strikers. It pitted the American Railway Union against the Pullman Railroad company and the Federal Government.
