  • Industrial Revolution

     Industrial Revolution
    The Industrial Revolution occured from the year 1760 to about 1840. Its was great for people who were not poor, but for those who were still poor, it brought many challenges. Children had to work in factories because they were able to fit their hands into the small equipment. People also lost their jobs because machines were replacing them. It also ment for people who were poor would be paid less and work in very dangerous conditions.
  • Haymarket Square Riot

    Haymarket Square Riot
    People were fighting for the average eight hour work day. They were also wanted to have better working conditions. As a result, labor radicals were protesting againt the policeman who killed people during a strike which ended up in a bomb being thrown into the middle of the riot.
  • Homestead Strike

    Homestead Strike
    Workers at a steel company went on strike because the company was cutting twenty percent of wages.
  • The Pullman Strike

    The Pullman Strike
    George Pullman was a man who tried to get money out of everything. He had his workers live on his land, does not seem that bad, but they had to pay to use thngs like the church or the library. He also treated his workers poorly. Many of his workers belonged to the American Railroad Union. Because of Pullman's actions, his workers wnt on strike to get more pay and less hours. They also would not let a train go by if it had a pullman car on it.
  • Great Anthracite Coal Strike

    Coal miners formed a union to help get a shorter working day and and better wage. Since the owners of the mine would not agree to disagree with them, the miners asked for help from the president ( Roosevelt).
  • Triangle Shirtwaste Fire

    Triangle Shirtwaste Fire
    What caused the fire in the factory was the fact that the women working the factory were working under poor conditions. They were paid very low wages and were working under dangerous conditions. Before the fire happened, the women working there went on strike to get better working conditions and a better wage.

  • Wagner Act

    Wagner Act
    The Wagner Act was signed by Franklin Roosevelt saying that employers could not interfear with employees unions. Its meaning is that anyone is free to join a union and that the company can do nothing about it ( meaning that they can't fire the employee).
  • Taft-Hartley Act

    Taft-Hartley Act
    The Taft- Hartley act is the exact opposite of the Wagner act. Its purpose is to try and to get rid of uniosor at least try and stop then from striking. It stops employers from collectin union dues, and it does not allow unions to part take in political campaigns.
