    The German confederation was formed at Vienna in 1815, replacing the Holy Roman Empire. It's 2 largest states were Prussia and the Habsburg Empire.

    Zollverein created customs union that removed tariffs on products traded between Germany. These were introduced in 1834, and by the 1859 most of the states were involved.

    Otto Von Bismarck

    Prime minister of Prussia, he had the idea that the Prussians must lead German people to unification. Later on Bismarck indirectly favoured the German unification with several wars.

    The territory of Holstein and Schleswigwas mostly populated by Germans, and they wanted to take back their lands. Prussia united with Austria in the war so that Bismarck could asses Austria's military power.

    In the battle of Königratz, Norther Germany united with the Prussian army in the war to form North German Confederation, which was led by Prussia. It was realized in the Peac treaty of Prague along with the small Germany unity.

    Prussian-French War

    Bismarck didn't want to give up French territories, France declared war in june. Wiliam I. proclaimed Emperor of Germany at Versailles on january 18th, 1871, with that the Small German Unity was decleared. That led Germany to became one of the most powerful nation in Europe.
