As this went on, they were acknowledged for their contributions and Manitoba became the first province to grant women the right to vote and hold provincial office. Saskatchewan and Alberta soon followed, creating a society where women could have a say about their government

    The Germans took over Vimy Ridge back in September 1914. They got engineers to build artillery proof trenches protected by concrete machine gun posts leaving it quite difficult for Britain and allies to get through. In 1917 Britain and allies broke through after 3 days and the victory was seen as "the birth of a nation."

    During the battle of Vimy Ridge, Jones saved his unit from an enemy machine gun nest. As one of the few men of colour serving in combat he did not get much respect but after saving his unit he was recommended for the Distinguished Conduct Medal for his service

    Passchendaele was one of the worst battles of ww1. The fields were soaked and the morale was really low. Men were covered in mud and described to "have their characteristics shrugging off their shoulders."

    Influenza is a strain of flu that was first found in America, Europe and Asia before spreading around the world rapidly within months. It spread very similarly to COVID-19 and killed over 500 million in about 15 months. Because of the war there was little news coverage outside of Spain so the world was not prepared.
