    Institutes of the Christian Religion

    John Calvin established his doctrine which then developed the Calvinist Religion. Calvinism was mainly practiced by Puritans from New England.
  • First Africans

    The first Africans were brought to Virginia in little numbers. It wasn't until about 1670 that numbers multiplied into thousands.
  • Mayflower Compact

    As the Pilgrims landed in Plymouth, Pilgrim leaders signed the Mayflower Compact. This stated an agreement to form a self-government and have legal right to their land.
  • The Massachusetts Bay Colony

    A group of Puritans discovered the Massachusetts bay. The thousands of English immigrants helped start off the colony. The largest colony thanany other English settlement.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Nathaniel Bacon ignited a rebellion that took place in Virginia with the backcountry farmers and indentured servants.
  • Salem Witch Trials

    In Salem, Massachusetts a witch-hunt began which resulted in twenty people killed including two dogs. Nineteen were hung and one was pressed to death.
