  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War
This was a war with England and the 13 Colonies against the French and the American Indians. The King of England wanted to win the war, so he spent a lot of money on his military. Doing this made him go deep into debt which led to him taxing the Colonists to pay it off.
  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763
After the French and Indian war. the King passed the Proclamation of 1763 in order to avoid conflict with the American Indians. However, this angered the Colonists because they could no longer settle west of the Appalachian Mountains and some people already had land there.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
Because he was in debt from the French and Indian War, the king passed several taxes, including the Sugar Act. This Act put a tax on molasses and other sugar products. It also heavily restricted the smuggling of said products from other countries. This angered the Colonists because it limited the rum industry within the Colonies.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
The Stamp Act is another tax that the King passed in an attempt to pay off his debt from the French and Indian War. This Act imposed a tax on all paper products by making people buy stamps. Colonists were upset about this because it meant that they had to pay more money every-time they wanted to use paper.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
Colonists were throwing rocks at British soldiers who were guarding a building with a lot of their tax money from the previous Acts in it, so the soldiers opened fire on the crowd, killing five citizens. The Colonists were furious at the British because they murdered five bystanders.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
The King passed the Tea Act hoping to make more money to pay off his debt from the French and Indian War. This act made it so that the Colonists could only buy tea from the King's tea company. The Colonists were upset since this decreased the types of tea they could buy and only benefited the King.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
In protest of the Tea Act, a group called the Sons of Liberty decided to dump 18,000 dollars worth of British tea into the Boston Harbor. The British were furious because they lost a lot of money, and the Colonists were now turning to more extreme measures to protest British laws.
  • The Turning Point

I believe the Boston Tea Party was the turning point that made the war inevitable. After the Tea Act, the Colonists dumped 18.000 dollars worth of Tea into the Boston Harbor. The Colonists in Boston were now openly revolting and encouraged others to do the same. The British started passing the Intolerable Acts solely to punish the Colonists which increased tensions to the point of war.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts
Due to the Boston Tea Party, the British parliament passed a series of four laws to punish the Colonists. These Acts included the Boston Port Act, the Massachusetts Government Act, the Administration of Justice Act, and the Quartering Act. The Boston Port Act closed the Boston Port and prevented any supplies from reaching the Colonists in that area. Many Colonists went hungry because of this. The Intolerable Acts were the last things the Colonists could take before turning to war.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
After the Intolerable Acts the Colonists started to prepare for war. The Battles of Lexington and concord were the first battles of the Revolutionary War. They are known as the "shot hear 'round the world" This marked the starting point of the American revolution.
  • Olive Branch petition

    Olive Branch petition
After the Battles of Lexington and Concord the Colonists passed the Olive Branch petition as a last attempt to prevent war. They tried convincing the King they were his loyal subjects and would follow all his laws. The King immediately dismissed them and continued with the war anyways.
