Towards Crown Colony Rule

    Dominica was included with Antigua and Leeward Island in a semi-federal arrangement. They were under a Governor- in Chief residing in Antigua
  • Number of Voters and Candidates for Office increased

    Many wanted the crown colony rule. This was there attempt to prevent the growth of the new mulatto order
  • Formation of the Dominica Association for Reform of Abuses in the Administration of Public Affairs

  • Bill Introduced to sweep away old two house system and create a single chamber

  • The single chamber Act passed

    The Council and the House of Assembly became one Chamber of 28 members who elected their own speaker. The body was made up of 9 Appointed by the crown and nineteen representatives.
  • Bill to make Dominica a Crown Colony introduced

  • Dominica made a unit of the federal colony under the Leeward Island Federation

    Until 1898 Dominica was the only presidency of the federation which sent representatives duly elected to the central legislature in Antigua.
