    This pamplet called "Common Sense" was written in the year of 1776. The author who wrote this pamplet is Thomas Paine. The purpose of this was to inspired people in the Thirteen Colonies to declare and fight for independence from Great Britain in the summer of 1776. This pamplet also explained the advantages of and the need for immediate independence in a clear, simple language. Paine's pamplet was successful when George Washingtion said "sound doctrine and unanswerable reasoning."

    Fighting shifted from New England to the Middle States. The Battle of Long Island 1776 had two outcomes which were Washington had to abandon New York and The British persued the Americans north to White Plains, then west and south of New Jersey. Nathan Hale was a dangerous spy who worked to collect British Battle Plans, The Morale was low and many soldiers were desert.

    The goal was to cut the New England colonies off from the rest. The three parts were Canada, West, and South. The British failed at Saragota because the Americans cut off the British that were moving in West and blocked them from moving South out of Canada. The results of the Battle were it ended British threat to New England, lifted the Moral of the American Army, Convinced other European countries the Americans might have a chance to win, and France woukd formally become an American Alley.

    Valley Forge is located in Pennsylvania. The British were camped in Philadelphia for the winter. The conditions were horrible with people getting sick and lacking supplies, clothes, shoes, etc. A result from this winter at Valley Forge is it left them better trained too.

France became the first nation to sign a treatywith the United States. Baron von Steuben was a German baron who helped train the Continental army. He taught them how to march, how to improve their aim, and how to attack with bayonets.

    The Americans sent George Rogers Clark and a militia force to strike British forts beyond the Appalachain Mountains in 1778. The Americans had success by making them surrender. The result of the Americans trying to defend the frontier was it strengthened the American claim on the Ohio River Valley.

    After the Battle of Cowpens, Gen. Cornwallis moved to Virginia. This was a fatal mistake for him because at the end Cornwallis found himself in a trap with no where to go. First, the French fleet chased off the Britishships off of Yorktown. Second, Washington rushed towards Virginia so he could barred their escape by land and sea. On October 19,1781, the Americans and French ined up in two columns when then the British threw their weapons into a pile on the ground.
