    Although the Missouri Compromise settled the disputement about whether Missouri would enter the Union as a slave state or a free-slave state, it did not fix future problems which led to the Civil War. The compromise allowed Missouri to enter the Union as a slave state, and Maine as a free-slave state in order to keep the balance. And it also prohibited future states to become slave states 36°,30° north of the Lousiana Purchase.

It also gave the reader an idea of what the masters of slaves would force the slaves to do, and their harsh punishments.

He chopped them into pieces and left them there as a message of what would happen to those who supported slavery. This event caused great commotion amongst abolitionists and pro slavery people.
