    Titanic sinking
    At around midnight on April 14th, the Titanic hit an iceberg. The hit ruptured at least 5 compartments, they filled with water and pulled down the bow of the ship. The bow started to sink and the stern started to raise up to an almost vertical position. Then Titanic broke apart at about 2:20 am April 15th. They pieces of the ship fell to the ocean floor.

    A team of American and French researchers found the Titanic ship wreck in 1985. French said the shipwreck was found at around 12,000 of depth. The teams confirmed it was The Titanic by using cameras. The French and American team worked near where The Titanic was known to have sank. White Star (the company who owned The Titanic) has rights to any artifacts that are found.

    Between 1987 -2004 there were 7 research/ recovery expeditions. During the expeditions more than 5,500 artifacts from the shipwreck were recovered. It's important to recover the artifacts because the oceans environment will destroy them. Recovering and preserving artifacts takes a team of people. When the artifacts get recovered and preserved they go to museums or get auctioned off to collectors.

    In 2010 the Titanic wreckage had: caved in roofs, weak decks, the stern was close to collapsing, the crows nest was missing, etc. Experts had a difference in opinions on when they thought the bow of the ship would collapse. Some said within two years, where others thought the bow would survive 100's more years.

    There are different options when it comes to visiting the Titanic shipwreck. You could be part of a $60,000 2 week cruise, or you could be in part of a pair that gets crammed into a tiny Russian submarine with a captain. The submarine is less then 7 feet wide. The trip to the wreckage takes 2.5 hours and round trip takes 8-10 hours.

There was a group of 20 tourists who paid $59,000 each to see the wreck. You can now pay $105,129 to go on an 8 day tour of the wreck site with Blue Marble Private.

    The Titanic wreckage is deteriorating, one of the causes is because of the hungry ocean bacteria. The deterioration has slowed down, but experts say that the wreckage could be gone as soon as 2030. In 2010, bacteria was found on pieces of the ship that had been recovered. It is easy for bacteria to survive at the depths that wreckage is at.
