  • Archduke Franz Ferdinand: Political

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand: Political

The Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were shot and killed by a Bosnian Serb nationalist. I would rate this a -1 because the dictator of Austria was gone and the people of Austria were free from his rule. But it is a decline because it sparked WW1 and many people lost their lives during the war.
  • World War 1 Begins: Political

    World War 1 Begins: Political

After the assassination of Archduke Franz, the Central powers declare war on the Allied powers. I would rate this as a -2. This is because the war was brutal and full of carnage. During the war, new weapons and technologies were used and killed many soldiers. Families lost loved ones, soldiers died, and many faced hard times during this war. That is why this was a decline.
  • War Measures Act: Political

    War Measures Act: Political

This was a federal law that was enacted on August 22. 1914 in Parliament. This act gave the Canadian government power over Canadians. They used this power to suspend the civil liberties of "enemy aliens." I would give this a rating of -2 because it made peoples life bad. This is because the "enemy aliens" were sent to concentration camps and this was decided by the Canadian government. In these concentration camps, they were given harsh living conditions and limited water and food.
  • Second Battle of Ypres: Political

    Second Battle of Ypres: Political

During this battle the Germans used the first gas attack against the Allies. There were many soldiers that died because of this new weapon. I would rate this as a -2 because the weapons they killed so many people and as time goes on, other people can make more deadly chemical weapons. Another reason why I gave it a -2 is because it injured and killed many soldiers on the battlefield.
  • Wartime Elections Act: Political

    Wartime Elections Act: Political

This act allowed women who were related to Canadian soldiers that were in the war to vote in Canada's federal election. I would rate this a +2. It shows that is is a sign of progress because before this, women were not allowed to vote. This is a step forward in making women have more rights and be treated equally.
  • Halifax Explosion: Social

    Halifax Explosion: Social

A ship that was carrying bombs and munitions that would be used in the war ran into another ships near the Halifax harbor. This resulted in the ship exploding and devastating the north end of Halifax. This explosions killed many people and injured or left others disabled. I would give this a rating of -2 because this event killed many people. If there weren't any miscommunication or indecisiveness between the captains of the two ships, this would have been avoided.
  • World War 1 Ends: Political

    World War 1 Ends: Political

On November 11, 1918, Germany signed the treaty of Versailles with the allies and ended WW1. Germany signed this because they were running out of soldiers and weapons to fight and they were going to be invaded soon. I would give this a rating of +2. This is because no more people have to be killed and people can live normally again.
  • Winnipeg General Strike: Economical

    Winnipeg General Strike: Economical

This strike was the biggest strike in Canadian history. More than 30 thousand workers left their jobs and went on strike. They went on strike because of bad working conditions, unemployment, and low wages. I would rate this a +1 because people in Canada stood up to those in power so that they could live and work better and easier. But two people died during the strike and many were injured. That is why I would give it a +1.
  • The Discovery of Insulin: Social

    The Discovery of Insulin: Social

On January 1st, 1922, Sir Fredrick G. Banting discovered Insulin. I would rate this a +2 because insulin is used to help treat all types of diabetes. Without his discovery, many people today won't have a way to treat their diabetes.
  • Stock Market Crash: Economic

    Stock Market Crash: Economic

On this day, the stock prices and shares dropped significantly in price. This was one of the causes of the Great Depression and many people lost most of their money. I would rate this a -2 because it made people's live worse. Because of the crash, many people didn't have money to support their families and became unemployed.
