    • Used throguhout the war, and invention was made to shoot down others by mounting machine guns and shooting between the rotating propeller blades
    • Set up many adnvaces for aircraft use after war, including passengers and cargo, search and rescue missions and fighting forest fires.
    • Canada benefited greatly because developments made during WWI, helped technological advancements after.

    Canadians moved in to replace French after they were hit by chlorine gas.
    Canadians fought valiantly and the German advance stopped. The Canadians proved they could deliver when asked.

    Lt. Col- John McCrae composed well known poem called In Flanders Fields.
    John McCrae's poem gave readers and viewers his view of the war, and the poem is read every Remembrance Day.
    Became Canada's Official Poem, which clearly shows its significance to Canada's contributions in the war, and the fallen soldiers who fought for the country.

    Manitoba government becomes first in Canada to give women right to vote in provincial elections
    Eventually Saskatchewan, Alberta did in 1916
    Ontario and B.C. followed in 1917 A big step for Canada, which eventually led to women getting same federal voting rights as men in 1920
  • Radios in WWI

    • Radio communication became important during war, especially on ships.
    • Wireless operators could send messages from station to station on a network, and were able to go farther and farther.
    • Private businesspeople saw that radios could be used to their advantage greatly, as well as entertainment.
    • Montreal has first of what was to become many broadcasting stations across Canada in the years to come.

    Canadians and British launched assult to capture Passchendaele itself on November 6th.
    Canadians endured heavy fighting and on November 10th, they cleared out Germans from the ridge.
    Canadians proved to succeed in an unbelievable challenge.
    9 soldiers were awarded Victoria Cross in recognition of their outstanding effort at Passchendaele

    Made a huge impact on Canada's history as French Canadians were especially angered by conscription, leading to their bitterness towards the rest of Canada to this very day

    More Canadians died in the last 100 days, than in the fours years of battle.
    Due to fact thaat they got out of the trenches and faught to push the Germans back, eventually leading to Germany's final defeat.
    Turning point for Canada, proving that we were a strong army, and had the tactics to win the war.
  • Roy Brown shoots down Red Baron

    Roy Brown shoots down Red Baron
    Germany
    Brown was in air with his squadron, and caught Red Baron in a dogfight.
    Flew from behind and fired at the German ace, and killed him.
    Downing of German's most feared pilot gave Canadians morale boost.
    Proved that airplanes could make huge military contribution, as they have to this very day.
