  • Microsoft Disk Operating System(MS-DOS)

    Originally made for IBM, was the standard operating system for all IBM compatible PC's. Uses a Command Line Interface (CLI)

    Microsoft Windows 1.0 - 2.0

    In contrast to the MS-DOS, Microsoft Windows used a icon based interface. Was named "Windows" after the computing boxes that was a fundamental part of the operating system. Windows 2.0 was released in 1987 which improved some small features and was designed for the Intel 286 processor

    Windows 3.0 - 3.1

    two updates to the older versions of Windows. Better performance, and had advanced graphics, designed for the Intel 386 processor, resembles the framework of the Windows we have today, 3.1 was released in 1992.

    It's release in 1995 improved a lot of the interface and supported 32 bit applications. Could automatically detect and configure installed hardware
  • Windows 98

    this version is able support many more technologies than before such as DVD and USB. It also bundled a web browser with the OS
  • Windows ME - Millenium Edition

    An update of the Windows 1998 core released in 2000
  • Windows 2000

    an OS designed for business computer systems to do numerous things such as run software applications, connect to internet, and access network resources. There are four different versions of Windows 2000
  • Windows XP

    Built off the Windows 2000, Windows XP was more stable and had high mobility. Windows XP is one of the best selling Microsoft products.
  • Windows Vista

    Windows Vista was released in 2006 and updated and improved the reliability, security, performance, and manageability. This version included the low power sleep state.
  • Windows 7

    Released with Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7 improved the features of Windows Vista, and added some new features such as Internet Explorer 8 and a newer version Windows Media Center
  • Windows 8

    Made with touchscreen capabilities in mind, Windows 8 had a faster boot up time than windows 7 and filled the start screen with "Live tiles" which were updated in real time.
  • Windows 10

    released in 2015 after a beta release in late 2014, Windows 10 contains Microsoft Edge rather than Internet Explorer, as well as a fast start up time, and built in security.
