  • Invention of the Spinning Jenny

    James Hargraves invented what is called a spinning Jenny, which is sort of a spinning engine which increased the amount of cotton that a worker could produce. Not all workers were pleased with the invention some who were worried the new machine would take over there jobs marched to hargraves house and destroyed 20 of the first new machines before they could be used these were called luddites. These new spinning machines allowed for new weaving factories to be set up
  • James Watt invented the first reliable steam engine

    While Thomas Savery invented the first crude steam engine in 1698 and Thomas Newcomen improved on this design it wasn't until Scotsman James Watt improved on the steam engine made it become a important part of the industrial revolution. The steam engine was used in steam ships and steam trains
  • Iron refining improved

    Henry Cort invented the "puddling and rolling" method of refining iron. This iron refining process made the iron cheaper and stronger and could be used in many parts of industry such as ship building,steam engines, and rail roads.

    The west and north coast of Australia had been visited quite frequently by Europeans in the 17th century. The east coast was first charted by Europeans, in 1770, by the well known Pacific explorer, Captain James Cook. On April 29, 1770, on Possession Island, he claimed the whole east coast for King George III and called it New South Wales.
  • The Gold rush of Ballarat

    The Victorian Goldrush started in 1851 in Ballarat and Bendigo. More than 500 thousand people rushed to the gold fields to stake there claim. This major migration of people was the biggest boost of migration in Australia at the time, and many towns in Victoria were built on the success of gold.
  • The first telephone was invented

    Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray both designed devices that could trasmit speech electrically, but Alexander Graham Bell is the one who is remembered for inventing the telephone. The telephone allowed for faster and more reliable communications between longer distances.
  • Thomas Edison invents the lightbulb

    While Thomas Edison didnt exactly invent the light bulb he did come up with an electric lighting system (including light sockets with on off switches and the underground conductor network) that made it safe and economical for ordanary people
  • Henry Ford Produces His Model T Ford

    The first production model t ford left the factory. Henry Ford had not exactly produced the first car but it the first to come off an assembly line, eventually would be able to be produced cheaply enough for everyone to afford
  • World War 1 begins

    The Great War that was faught between Germany and the allies started in 1914 and ended in 1918 during that time there were many developments and improvements in weapons and machinery, some examples of that included the tanks which came in 1915 and the first machine gun.
