  • Intolerable Acts

    Were acts that the British Parliament passed as a reaction to the Boston Tea Party. The British Parliament assumed the colonist were content to live under British rule and that the colonist wouldn't object to the laws. The colonist felt the laws directly threatened their liberty. The laws were meant to punish the Massachusetts colonists for their rebellion in the Tea Party.
  • First Continental Congress

    It was a meeting with delegates from 12 of the colonies (excluding Georgia) they meet in Philadelphia. The First Continental Congress was series of measures imposed by the British government on the colonies in response to their resistance to new taxes.
  • The Second Continental Congress

    The Second Continental Congress managed the war effort and it financed and helped the war with funds and supplies and moved it was a huge stepping stone to the colonies independence
  • Lexington & Concord

    Lexington & Concord battle was to take the colonists' military supplies and arrest revolutionaries.It was the first military battle of the Revolutionary war. It was fought in the Mass. Bay Colony. The colonist won the the war which forced the British to leave.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Colonel William Prescott came up with the saying "Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes." during the battle. The British sent out troops to take control. The colonist fought back but didn't succeed. The British came out on top of the battle.
  • The Olive Branch Petition

    The Olive Branch Petition was an attempt to speak up about the rights of the colonists while maintaining their loyalty to the British crown.Some of the colonist remained loyal to the British after this Petition was signed so they were named loyalist.
  • Publication of Common Sense

    The most important impact of the Publication of Common Sense was to help cause the American colonists to decide to fight for independence. Thomas Paine was the author and his 2 main ideas were 1) independence from England and (2) the creation of a democratic republic. This caused many people to speak out
  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence was a statement written by Thomas Jefferson declaring the freedom of the 13 American colonies from Great Britain. It said that the 13 colonies were not under British rule any longer.
  • Battles of Trenton and Princeton

    Washington caused a British attack at the Battle of the Assunpink Creek. That night, he left his position, circled around General Lord Cornwallis' army, and went to attack the British garrison at Princeton. Washington lead 2000 men across the Delaware river and lead the colonist to victory.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    The Battle of Saratoga was a crucial victory for the Patriots during the American Revolution and is considered the turning point of the Revolutionary War.John Burgoyne led his troops towards NY and got surrounded by colonist. 2 fights broke leading the colonist to victory in both.
  • Valley Forge

    During the Battle of Valley Forge hundreds died from disease. But the suffering troops were held together by loyalty to the Patriot cause. General Washington, who stayed with his men. Because the British took over Philadelphia George Washington and his troops retreated .
  • Battle of Yorktown

    General Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington because the French and American forces trapped the British troops at Yorktown. This caused the British to surrender at the Battle of Yorktown.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris officially ended the Revolutionary War on September 3, 1783. It was signed in Paris by Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and John Jay. The treaty stated Britain recognized the independent nation of the United States of America. This was the final step of the colonist getting their independence.
