With the shortage of indentured Servants the Virginia plantion owners need a cheap labor source. In 1619 a group of Black Africans were brought over by the Dutch to Virginia. At the time the English didn't recongize African Slavery and were also too poor to afford African slaves. Later in 1660 however the Virginia House of Burgesses made it so Africans where bondages to White plantion owners. African slavery would change Southern Culture and Society forever.

A chief of the Wampanoags Tribe named Metacom (King Philip) lead a alliance of many tribes in southern new England to fight English encroachment on the Native land.
