The Texas Annexation was when Mexico refused to make it know that Texas is independent. Due to this Texas could not be admitted as a new state due to the border dispute. Not only that but because of slavery too. Because slavery was an issue Texas was an independent state for almost 10 years before being admitted to the united states. This is important because it shows everything that Texas had to go through in order to be admitted to the US.

The Oregon Treaty was a treaty negotiated by the British. It was the British Territory that the United States wanted. American's claims to the land caused conflict between the Americans & the British which led to the negotiations. The heading of the newspaper that supported the war was headed “54’40o or Fight!”. This is important because it allowed the US to gain more land once again but this time from the British.

Presidential Reconstruction was Lincoln's 10% plan. The 10% plan was only 10% of the voters in the 1860 election needed in order to oath to the Union and accept terms of Emancipation. During Lincoln's plan, he excluded high-ranking Confederate military leaders and officials from this process. Andrew Johnson wanted to continue on Lincoln's plan, leading him close to being impeached. This is important to history because it shows how congress was.

The war started when confederate forces fired on the Union held garrison. Causing the garrison commander to surrender the next day. The Emancipation Proclamation was introduced as a military measure at first. Which made it impossible for the British whose population was strong through slavery to support the Southern war effort. Gave the south another chance to rejoin the Union but they could keep their slaves. Allowed African Americans to fight on the Union side. The 13th Amendment was one of the three amendments passed in the year 1865. The 13th Amendment ended slavery. This meant that in order for southern states to be able to form a government they had to recognize the amendment. It was passed but then ratified in December of that year. This event is important because it ended slavery for African Americans, which made them free.

The 14th Amendment was the amendment passed in the year of 1866. This amendment gave birthrights to citizens. Meaning that if you were born in the United States, you are now considered a citizen. This decision overturned the whole Dred Scott case by recognizing African Americans as citizens. This event is important in history because if this event didn't take place African Americans wouldn't have equal rights today as other races.

The Plessy v Ferguson court case was a case that was held due to segregation. During this case segregation was legalized and discrimination and negated the equal protection provisions of the 14 amendments. This case developed the principle that African Americans were separate but not equal. Although we knew this it didn't make a difference because we still felt and knew we'rent equally. This is important in history because it shows everything that African Americans we through for equal rights.
