    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    April 19, 1775
    This was the first battle of the war. Paul Revere warns the Militias about the British. During the battle, the British were constantly under attack. The colonist chased the British and killed them one by one. The Americans won the battle. The initial shot of this battle was known as "the shot heard around the world".This was the start of a fight for freedom.

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    This was a battle that was won by the British. At the battle, the British out numbered the colonist two-to-one.The battle actually took place on Breeds Hill. This battle made the British realize that the war was not going to be easy.
  • Battle of Long Island

    Battle of Long Island
    On March 22, 1776, George Washington ordered 10,000 troops of the Colonial Army to New York. The American troops were positioned on the outskirts of New York City on a series of hills in Brooklyn. He was intent on defending New York falling to the British; but knew he would not be able to withstand a siege. This was a British victory, and Nathan Hale said "I regret that i only have but one life to lose for my country".

    This was an American win. The American soldiers, led by George Washington, went across the Delaware River and attacked the Hessians. By 9:30AM, 100 Hessians had been killed and 900 were captured. In this battle, the Americans suffered no casualties. This battle reenergized the colonist.

    The Americans won this battle. The British were forced to retreat. What is called the battle of Saratoga was actually 2 battles fought almost 3 weeks apart. This battle is considered the turning point because this is when France starts to support the colonist and give them supplies.

    The Battle of Vincennes, or Siege of Fort Sackville, was a small but significant action of the frontier. After a daring wintertime march, a small American force was able to force the British to surrender the fort. The capture of Fort Sackville, renamed Patrick Henry, helped secure the frontier for the Americans.

    The most remarkable single ship duel of the American Revolution was between the Bonne Homme Richard commanded by John Paul Jones and the HMS Serapis. The duel took place on September 23, 1779.The Serapis was a 50 gun ship that outgunned the Bonne Homme Richard which was barely sea worthy. When the captain of the Serapis hailed the Bonne Homme Richard and demanded surrender,John Paul Jones answered:" Surrender be dammed, I have not begun to fight" The Bon Homme Richard went on to win the battle".

    The Battle of Guilford Courthouse in North Carolina,on March 15, 1781,proved pivotal to the American victory in the American Revolutionary War.Although British troops under Lieutenant General Charles Cornwallis scored a tactical victory at Guilford Courthouse over American forces under Major General Nathanael Greene (1742-86),the British suffered significant troop losses during the battle. Afterward, Cornwallis abandoned his campaign for the Carolinas and instead took his army into Virginia.

    On this day in 1781, General George Washington, commanding a force of 17,000 French and Continental troops, began the siege known as the Battle of Yorktown against British General Lord Charles Cornwallis and a contingent of 9,000 British troops at Yorktown, Virginia, in the most important battle of the Revolutionary War. At the end of the war, General Cornwallis surrendered and the Americans won the war.
