    American discovered

    History was primarily changed by the exchange of plants and animals between Europe and the Americas, commonly known as the Columbian Exchange. Sadly disease was also introduced and had a devastating effect on both societies.

    The beginning of British exploration

    In 1584, Sir Walter Raleigh scouted possible sites for a colony farther to the south.
    Effect - The failure of Roanoke was expensive, and, with the war against Spain still raging, Elizabeth made it clear that there was no money for colonization ventures. When peace came in 1604, private funds rather than the royal treasury financed English settlement in North America.
  • Ronoke established

    Roanoke's so-called "Lost Colony" of 90 men, 17 women and 9 children, founded in 1587 and discovered to be missing in 1590, but for the word "Croatan" carved on a post.

  • Revolutionary War
