At this step, students will consider ideas for what topic they would like to write about. EXAMPLE:
Onandaga customs
Differences between different tribes
Different types of homes
How they hunted and gathered food
Various ways to hunt or get food
Different roles in Mohawk tribe -
At stage 2, the student will look at the ideas they gathered and decide on one that they would like to write about. They can than brainstorm, research and write down notes about this topic. EXAMPLE:
I will write about the types of homes Iroquois tribes used. -
At this stage in the writing process, the student should review notes about theor topic and begin writing. When writing a draft the student shouldn't worry about mistakes and just get their ideas down on the paper.

At this stage the student will look at their first draft cirtically and make revisions accordingly. They can add more information or take out repetitive information, substitute more interesting words and make sure it is conherent and in correct order (introduction, body, closing argument or conclusion).

At this stage in the writing process the student will edit spelling, grammar etc. Everything should be spelled correctly with proper punctuation and grammar. Work should meet all standard writing conventions.

This is the final stage of the writing process and the student will publish their final work. They may choose to illustrate it and bind it so it is like a book. The work is ready to be shared with peers and teachers!
