    British Impressment of American Sailors

    Following the American Revolution, the French offered passage across the Atlantic Ocean for a couple of years. After that deal ran out, the British began impressing American merchant sailors and navy ships; this meant that they captured the ships, took sailors captive, and forced them to work for their navy.
  • Embargo Act of 1807

    The Embargo Act stopped European imports from coming into America and stopped American exports from entering European countries. This act actually hurt the United States most.
