The point of Group 559 was to have the Viet Cong down in North Vietnam, but still have a way to get materials to them. The trail they used eventually became the Ho Chi Minh trail. -

President Kennedy wants to call in for more American advisors to help the Vietnamese government fight against the Guerrilla Viet Cong. -

The Strategic Hamlet Program was a plan by the United States and the South Vietnamese government to try and fight the Viet Cong via a population transfer. We would place them in safe "hamlets". -
Death at the Qui Nonh Hotel
A bomb placed by a Viet Cong soldiers in a hotel in Qui Nonh, kills 23 American servicemen. -
President Johnson initiates Operation Rolling Thunder
We were to bomb North Vietnam with bombs, so the Viet Cong in South Vietnam would not be able to survive. -
Operation Junction City
Operation Junction City was one of the largest air-mobile assaults of all time. The end goal of the mission to destroy Viet Cong bases, and their headquarters. -
Attacked on the Têt Holiday
The Viet Cong attack over 100 cities in South Vietnam. American soldiers defend the cities. By the end of the attack, 37,000 Viet Cong soldiers had been killed, 2,500 American soldiers had been killed.

President Nixon takes office and promises to the public that he would pull out 500,000 soldiers from South Vietnam, but also ensuring the survival of South Vietnam. -
Operation Lam Son 719
Seemingly like a normal mission, 3 South Vietnamese groups go and attack 2 Viet Cong bases. They unknowingly walked into a trap set up by the Viet Cong. 9,000 South Vietnamese are killed. -

The United States begins to talk about ending the war with the North Vietnamese, in Paris. -
Cease fire
The United States and the Vietnamese sign a cease fire to end the war, and for the U.S to start pulling out all of our troops from South Vietnam. -
Last to die in Vietnam
At 4:03 A.M, 2 Ameican Marines are killed by a rocket attack. They are the last American soldiers to die in Vietnam. We pull all of our soldiers and moderators out of Vietnam.
